I got me some hot chicks!

So, I got my chicks today. They are very cute! Here are the pictures.

I picked them up today in a shoe box. They were quite loud on the way home. Chirping all of the way. I got 4 of them. I was worried that one would die or would end up being a male. They are sexed at 90% accuracy and I did not want to end up with 2 females. If I do get a rooster, I will eat it. If it is an extra hen, I am sure I can find a new home for her.
I am using a 50 gallon aquarium as my brooder. The aquarium is 36" x 18". I am a fish guy and have several tanks. I placed cardboard along the bottom and have wood pellets as my bedding material. There is a feeder, waterer, and a heating lamp (to keep them at 90-95 degrees) in there with them. The chicks should be kept indoors (or in a heated brooder) until they have their feathers, about 5-8 weeks.

I have not picked any names for them yet. I think I will have it picked out by this weekend.

Right now they are picking and scratching at the ground. They have also been sleeping a lot. I was very surprised to see them laying on their chest with their heads down. At first I thought they were dying. I called Livingscape Nursery, where I got them, and they told me that they were just sleeping. The most important things at this time are, heat (not too warm or cold), food, and water. I think I have all of that covered and just have to wait for them to get bigger.

That's so cool! Not only are you doing it, you're doing it the right way! Can't wait to hear more!
